Cross-Cultural Research in Social Dilemmas and Beyond
The program of this preconference can be found here: https://socialdilemma.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/672c6-preconference-icsd-2024_program.pdf
Across scientific disciplines, there have been growing calls to understand cooperation and the mechanisms that support it beyond WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) societies. Social scientists such as psychologists or behavioral economists have increasingly started to address the importance of culture in their research and many cross-cultural studies have been published in recent years. Given the rising popularity of cross-cultural research, we are organizing a workshop on cross-cultural research on social dilemmas and beyond. The workshop will be divided into two parts:
Part 1: Best practices and challenges in cross-cultural studies
We will cover different steps of the research process such as study material preparation, data collection, and analysis with a specific focus on particularities that might arise in a cross-cultural project.
Part 2: Directions for future collaborations in cross-cultural studies
We plan to discuss current and planned collaborations (e.g., multi-site projects) that will shape impactful cross-cultural research. For this part of the workshop, we invite people to present their (new) approaches to conducting cross-cultural studies in a short lightning talk (5-10min). If you are interested in presenting a project or a new approach, please provide a short description when registering for the preconference.
Registration for the preconference opens on the 29th of February, 2024. You can register via this link: https://forms.gle/MEBRsqpDkpn8ndfS8.
